Missions

The famous Hymn writer, and brother of John Wesley, Charles, once wrote that, “The central proclamation of the gospel, in Wesleyan  point of view, is God’s free grace received by faith and worked out in love”.  The Missions Team offers opportunities to share God’s free grace with others.  Some of these opportunities include:

  • Because We Care special offerings
  • Tuesday’s Table
  • Mission trips
  • Soles for Souls shoe drives
  • Helping Hand Ministry
  • Commodity ministry
  • Camp Horizon
  • Habitat for Humanity
  • Meals throughout the year to raise funds and awareness for national and international charities

Whether it’s through painting a house, donating shoes, or making pork burgers, Christ is counting on us to share His grace with others.

Tuesday's Table

Through the ministry of “Tuesday’s Table”, we offer a free community meal each Tuesday night from 5:00-6:00 pm in Fellowship Hall.  All who would find this weekly meal helpful are welcome.  There is no charge for the meal, nor are reservations required.  We are feeding 60-80 people each week.

Camp Horizon

We support our local United Methodist Church Camp, located east of Arkansas City that provides a beautiful location for spiritual renewal and reflection. Horizon has recently transformed the former dining hall into Inspiration Lodge. Each year Camp Horizon is attracting more summer campers and adult retreat participants – and this restoration helps meet the need of additional lodging.

The next BIG project is the remodeling of the swimming pool - which is 60 years old and the addition of basketball courts and a renovated sports area.

Prison Ministry

We have an active Prison Ministry, which includes offering Disciple Bible Study at the Winfield Correctional Facility.  We also have mentors who work with inmates in an after-care program as they transition back into society.

Legal Ministry

First UMC offers a legal services ministry on the first Tuesday of each month. An attorney is present from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. to meet with anyone and answer legal questions in a confidential and private setting in the church library.  These services are free of charge. Those attending may use the parking lot at 10th and Loomis across from Winfield’s post office and enter through the east door.
